Adults with Developmental Disabilities

Shalom Group
The JFSGNH Shalom Group is committed to assisting adults with developmental disabilities, and their families and friends, by creating a welcoming and inclusive Jewish community. We believe that the whole community benefits from the meaningful participation of all its members, and that isolation and exclusion should not be an inevitable part of the experience of those with disabilities.

JFSGNH holds special events celebrating the Jewish holidays, enabling participants to have rich, fulfilling holiday experiences. We also participate in larger community wide events, social and cultural programs at the JCC and Shabbat services and dinners at local synagogues.

Twice a month a Jewish Student’s Group is held at the Chapel Haven School to offer them a chance to socialize and learn more about Jewish traditions, customs and history.

In addition, JFSGNH offers professional support and care to affirm its goal to foster and enhance the independence of people with special needs. There are many services members can take advantage of, including:

  • Individual Case Management
  • Mental Health Counseling
  • Life Skills and Social Skills Groups
  • Social Activities at the JCC
  • Volunteer Opportunities
  • Referrals and linkages to other community services and programs
