Caregiver Support Group – Who Cares for the Caregivers
May 9, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
WHO CARES FOR THE CAREGIVERS?
When your loved one needed extra care, you stepped in. Medical appointments, house-cleaning, food shopping and preparation, and more – you found a way to help and solve the problem, often at the expense of your time and resources. The loved one’s loss of memory combined with impairment of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning makes the job even more challenging. Where do you turn for solace? To whom can you reach out? Everyone is so busy and they don’t really want to hear your problems, do they? You may feel that there is no where to turn, that you are alone in the struggle to be the best caregiver you can be. But you are not alone. There are many like you who share your experience and can provide peer support because they know what you are going through.
The Jewish Wellness and Healing Center at JFS, led by Rabbi Fred Hyman, Ed.D., is facilitating a Caregivers Support Group. In the group, members each have a chance to express what they are going through and receive appropriate feedback from group members and the facilitator. The group is confidential and members feel a sense of freedom to share their burdens.
The next groups are scheduled for May 9 and June 13 at 7:00 p.m. at the Towers, 18 Tower Lane, New Haven. For more information or additional dates please email Susan Skalka at susan@towerone.org or Rabbi Hyman at fhyman@jfsnh.org.
