SUMMARY:This is Hunger Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:The faces of hunger in America are both familiar and hidden from view\, yet they are all too real and far too many.  \nThanks to the efforts of local Rabbi Josh Ratner\, MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger travelling exhibit of “This Is Hunger”\, is coming to our local community.  This powerful community engagement program that will encourage individuals to embark on a journey—one that that will challenge their beliefs about who in America struggles with hunger and why\, and empower them to take action. \nFrom Sunday\, May 7th through Wednesday\, May 10 this exhibit\, which includes a 53-foot-long double expandable trailer\, will be located at Congregation Mishkan Israel\, 785 Ridge Road in Hamden.  Visitors to this exhibit will be taken on a virtual and interactive journey and meet virtually real people struggling with hunger. They will see the faces of hunger\, hear their stories and learn about this silent but prevalent issue. Participants will also be invited to engage in activities and experiences that will deepen their awareness about the complexities of being hungry. \nThis event is free and open to the general public.  To reserve your spot\, please visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/this-is-hunger-ct-congregation-mishkan-israel-tickets-33531976043

SUMMARY:Caregiver Support Group - Who Cares for the Caregivers
DESCRIPTION:WHO CARES FOR THE CAREGIVERS? \nWhen your loved one needed extra care\, you stepped in.  Medical appointments\, house-cleaning\, food shopping and preparation\, and more – you found a way to help and solve the problem\, often at the expense of your time and resources.  The loved one’s loss of memory combined with impairment of cognitive\, emotional\, and behavioral functioning makes the job even more challenging.  Where do you turn for solace?  To whom can you reach out?  Everyone is so busy and they don’t really want to hear your problems\, do they?  You may feel that there is no where to turn\, that you are alone in the struggle to be the best caregiver you can be.  But you are not alone.  There are many like you who share your experience and can provide peer support because they know what you are going through. \nThe Jewish Wellness and Healing Center at JFS\, led by Rabbi Fred Hyman\, Ed.D.\, is facilitating a Caregivers Support Group.  In the group\, members each have a chance to express what they are going through and receive appropriate feedback from group members and the facilitator.  The group is confidential and members feel a sense of freedom to share their burdens. \nThe next groups are scheduled for May 9 and June 13 at 7:00 p.m. at the Towers\, 18 Tower Lane\, New Haven.  For more information or additional dates please email Susan Skalka at susan@towerone.org or Rabbi Hyman at fhyman@jfsnh.org.

SUMMARY:Bereavement Support Group
DESCRIPTION:Bereavement Support Group \nThe loss of a loved one is felt differently by different people.  Some who are grieving want extra support when times get more difficult\, especially before holidays.  The Jewish Wellness & Healing Center (JWHC) at Jewish Family Service (JFS) has begun a bereavement group.  All are welcome to join.  This group is an opportunity to receive peer support from individuals who have experienced something similar so you can cope a little easier.  The first meeting was held just prior to the holiday of Passover – which is so family centered – when the loss might be felt more acutely.  All group members get the opportunity to verbalize their feelings and receive appropriate feedback from other group members and the facilitator.  The group is run by Rabbi Fred Hyman\, Ed.D.\, Coordinator of Pastoral Care and Pastoral Counseling of the JWHC\, who has many years of experience as a congregational rabbi and as a mental health clinician. \nThe next group will take place Monday\, May 15 at 6:00 p.m.\, at the JFS Office at 1440 Whalley Ave. New Haven. Please register by phone 203-389-5599\, ext. 135.
