The Parent Education Program (PEP) helps couples going through divorce or separation to support their children. Skilled therapists reinforce positive behaviors and identify negative behaviors to help parents focus on their children’s needs during the challenge of separation or divorce. The curriculum includes information about children’s development stages, healthy adjustment to separation, cooperative parenting, conflict management, dispute resolution techniques, visitation guidelines, and stress reduction. The program is offered as a six hour educational workshop.
PEP is mandated by the State of Connecticut for divorcing parents of children under 18. Jewish Family Service of Greater New Haven is an authorized PEP provider through a State of Connecticut contract administered by the Connecticut Council of Family Service Agencies.
Offered as a six-hour educational workshop, participants must complete all six hours in order to meet requirements. Class options include a one day (6 hour class) in New Haven; two (2) three-hour evening classes in New Haven; two (2) three-hour evening classes in Guilford; or two (2) three-hour morning classes in New Haven. Focus on K.I.D.S.
The FOCUS on K.I.D.S. program is for parents having trouble co-parenting, or for parents in high-conflict separations or divorce. Our facilitators work to resolve issues before they escalate to a level in which a judge must intervene. We provide parents with knowledge and insight, enabling them to make good decisions which will lead to solutions that are in the best interest of their children. Parents are taught how to interact in positive ways that are focused on what their children need, not on old hurts, resentments, and anger. JFSGNH is an authorized Focus on K.I.D.S. provider through a State of Connecticut contract administered by the Connecticut Council of Family Service Agencies (CCFSA).
