Charitable & Planned Giving to JFS

Jewish Family Service of New Haven, Inc. depends on the support of individuals, families and the local community to sustain and enhance their programs and services. Leaving a gift via charitable or planned giving, either directly to JFS or to JFS through the Jewish Foundation is fairly simple and the benefits of your gift will be three-fold:

1. JFS will benefit from the contribution.

2. Members of the community will benefit from continued and/or enhanced services.

3. Your estate may receive tax benefits.

Donating on-Line

You can donate to JFS on-line through Network for Good. (secure site accepting most major credit cards).

What is Charitable Giving?

Charitable/planned giving is a decision by an individual to designate property, money or personal belongings to an organization or non-profit agency.

Charitable giving can involve an immediate gift of cash or belongings, or you may decide that you would like to plan for a future gift in which your gift is deferred and disbursed through your will or estate. Such deferred designations should be arranged ahead of time and included in your will or other documentation so all involved will know your wishes.

There are many ways you can help JFS continue its mission to help others. Your gift can help keep the memory of loved ones or yourself alive and touch the lives of others in the local community. Here are several ways you can help support JFS and leave a legacy in your name.

Specify a monetary donation (cash.

Securities and Appreciated Stock - you can transfer securities Iappreciated stocks and mutual fund shares) directly from your brokerage account to JFS 's brokerage account. Contact us for more information.

Designate a percentage of your assests to JFS in your Will. Assets can be stocks, bonds, CD’s, or real estate, among other items.

Ask your employer if they match contributions and if so, obtain the paperwork.

Make a gift through a trust fund.

What’s The Next Step?

The first step in leaving a legacy is to decide the asset to be donated, to whom and when and how it will be disbursed. The Jewish Foundation of Greater New Haven manages the Jewish Family Service of New Haven Endowment Fund. Donations can be placed in this fund at any time by contacting either JFS or the Foundation. If the gift is to be distributed as a part of your estate, you can designate the Jewish Family Service Endowment Fund, The Jewish Foundation or both as a beneficiary of the asset(s) in your will. The Foundation also manages and distributes JFS designated gifts.

If you would like to make a one time cash donation, you may do so at any time. You can specify what programs (food pantry, counseling, volunteers, elderly, foster care/adoption) you would like the donation to be attributed to or you can send a donation as "unrestricted" meaning the agency will place the funding where it is most needed.
